MerCruiser has produced several different versions of the current 3.0L Engine Model however many customers mistakenly confuse the 2.5L 4 Cylinder Engine Model engine with the more current 3.0L 4 Cylinder Engine Models. Once the 2.5L engine model was discontinued MerCruiser did in fact offer several versions of the 3.0L engine; one the however being the 3.0L "L" Series Engine Models and the other being the 3.0L "LX" Series Engine Models. In approximately 1995-1996 time frame the MerCruiser 3.0L "L" model was discontinued for the 3.0L "LX" model and became the only 4 Cylinder Sterndrive Engine option offered by MerCruiser going forward. At this time MerCruiser redesigned the exhaust manifold and eliminated the one piece manifold with cast end caps and replaced it with a single manifold design p/n 806867 that was produced in two different version to be used on the 3.0L "LX" Engine Models going forward as well as replacing the older 3.0L "L" Engine Models for field service replacement purposes.
