Preventing Winter Damage
Don't wait until the last minute to PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT. True Boat Winterization involves much more than just draining the cooling system. Winterizing your boat properly will include draining and protecting the cooling system for long term storage. This is typically done by storing the engine over the winter with Propylene glycol in the marine cooling system to prevent corrosion. The battery cables should be disconnected to help preserve the batteries for next season. The fuel system should be treated for winter storage by 1st filling the tank completely full -with Ethanol Free Fuel- to reduce the amount of empty air volume and subsequent condensation. Then follow the manufactures recommendation to treat the fuel with a treatment product such as Sta-Bil. Along with these items the oil and filter should be changed as well as pressurizing the lower unit to verify no leakage is present. Following this the gear lube should be changed.
