Due to the latest EPA regulations regarding marine engines repowering with a new “Drop In” engine is no longer a straight forward proposition. The option of replacing just the longblock falls outside of the EPA regulations, or choosing to go with a Plus Series remanufactured complete “Drop In” motor will also fall outside the EPA regulations, however all new complete “Drop In” motors are regulated now. Just acquired 98 Regal Commodore 2750/2760 cabin cruiser with twin Volvo Penta 4.3L V-6 carberated engines. (counter rotating single props) Port engine seized at 891 hours. Previous owner says it dropped a valve. Engine s/n is supposedly 4110155437. Please advise:

1. Cost of replacement remanufactured longblock engine correct for this vessel.

2. Cost of replacement new block/longblock engine correct for this vessel.

3. Since I’m up here in Wichita, can I pick it up in Stillwater, OK and save the freight?

4. Is a core engine required? If I cannot provide a core, what is the additional charge? I think the previous owner cracked the block and didn’t want to admit it.

Yes please be aware that the Volvo Penta Marine Engines did not come factory equipped with the necessary Marine Exhaust System to allow for coolant to flow through the exhaust. PPT however does offer a direct replacement Volvo Penta Marine Exhaust System that has these additional fitting included to allow for the use of a Full Closed Cooling System….Read More. Unfortunately your particular model year of Volvo engine was equipped with the high mounted alternator which creates an interference mounting issue that prevents the heat exchanger unit from mounting properly. Because of this mounting issue the only option for installing a closed cooling system on this engine will be the standard 1/2 system. See Links Below.

Thank you for your replly. We have a boat CROWNLINE 215 made in 2002. Last year we have changed engine. Engine is Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-B V-belt. Block engine is GM 878 and is remanufactured – Y283249. We have changed exhaust manifold code number is HGE 4035 and engine center riser code number is HGE 3784. Please for your information witch full fresh water coooling kit would be suitable with this engine. I would like full fresh water cooling kit and not just half system cooling kit if is it possible. If there is full fresh water cooling kit please send me the specification about this kit and price.

In those files you have our engine before changing block, center risser and exhaust manifold

Unfortunately there aren’t any truly cost effective Marine Exhaust System options available that allow for a Stainless Riser on the AL manifold. Within their lineup of Mercruiser Parts they did use a cast stainless riser years ago but had a ton of issues with it (read article below) and therefore ultimately discontinued it. On the other hand there are AL manifold/stainless riser systems available for V8’s but nothing for V6’s. In all honesty the Fresh Water Cooled engine along with the coated AL exhaust manifold setup with anodic protection will probably be the best option overall with regards to corrosion protection AND weight savings.

I have recently emailed you and have decided on the use of the #5399-6 Fresh Water Cooling set up on my two 4.3 Vortec motors, I am going to be changing my manifoolds at the same time, I was considering the use of aluminum manifolds with stainless steel risers, since the risers are still going to have the raw salt water running through them and I am trying to cut down the weight a little, is this a wise choice? I have tried several different blogs and websites and havent been able to come up with a clear answer, any help you could give me on this would be appreciated.
