Many people think that winterizing their boat before the 1st freeze to mean you drain the water out of the engine and exhaust manifolds. It’s important that winterization entails draining the engine and exhaust but then re-filling the system with Propylene glycol to prevent corrosion and the possibility of freezing. Winterizing also includes changing the oil and filter, fogging the engine to prevent corrosion as well as changing the gear lube and inspecting the water pump impeller. Last but not least is the fuel system which has never been more important than today with the Ethanol based fuels that some customers are forced to use due to the non-availability of the ethanol free fuels. Therefore treating or stabilizing the fuel system is nearly as important as draining the engine these days.
