Topic: Marine Engine Fogging

Question: How do I fog my “Carbureted” Marine engine?

Response: Unfortunately engine fogging is currently not an easy procedure. There has been discussion with regards to developing a patented product that would make this a much more user friendly process, however nothing is available to date;

1.    Utilize any suitable outboard engine oil in a suitable spray can, approximately 12 oz.

2.    Remove flame arrestor and run engine at a fast idle.

3.    Depending upon how long you intend to leave the boat un-used, spray the oil into the throat of the carburetor. If your putting the boat up for the winter, 1^st put fuel stabilizer in the fuel system for winter storage. Run the engine while spraying about 2/3 of the oil into the carburetor. At this point let the engine come down to idle, then allow the engine to go ahead and die while you continue to spray the oil until this happens.

4.    Replace flame arrestor.

5.    If you are interested in fogging the engine prior to putting the boat up for the weekend, or some relatively short period of time and on a regular basis, I would suggest utilizing Platinum Tip spark plugs 1^st, and using approximately 2 oz. of oil per fogging.

NOTE: This procedure does not apply to fuel injected Marine Engines
