Options for repowering 1988 SeaRay 270 Amberjack with twin Alpha 1 gen 1 outdrives and Mercruiser 4.3L Fresh water cooled v6’s
Steve,
You could use the Blueprint V6 blocks however keep in mind that you will need to purchase new carb’s, distributors and ignition systems to work with these motors as they are producing about 15-20 more Hp than the stock motors.
Another option would be to go with the 4 Bbl power package that makes about 225 Hp. http://tinyurl.com/3wjlz7o
The next option would be the Complete Drop In http://tinyurl.com/36xj4lm
I would suggest not going to the 5.7L as this will cause you to change out the sterndrives because the existing gear ratio would not be correct for the torque of the 5.7L motor.

Hi, I’m looking at options for repowering my 88 searay 270 Amberjack It currently has twin alpha 1 gen 1 outdrives with 4.3 Fresh water cooled v6’s, 170 HP the motors only have 900 hrs but the boat sat for a few years, one starts the other does not but turns over. I’m comparing options of just dropping in new long block V-6 (your blueprint Blocks 262 hp) or repowering with 350 v-8s bobtails I think my FWC kits will fit both Any issues with using the newer vortech blocks? The outdrives are supposed to be in good shape and I don’t want to change them (convert to gen 2) yet if I don’t have too. I understand that if I go to higher HP that I will need to change gear the ratio in the outdrives Can you give me some options for this repower without just purchasing a complete package I’m looking for the following end result: keep my FWC kits and existing transom plates, get rebuilt outdrives – with 1 counter rotating, and have at least 260 hp each in the motors. Thanks, Steve
