Mercruiser Transom Assembly Replacement in a 22 Ft Scarab with an L29 Marine Engine
Mark,
I checked with our service shop and they said it would be best to replace the entire Mercruiser Transom Assembly. It would be possible to repair the existing setup however the labor cost would make it less desirable versus replacing the entire assembly.

hI i HAVE A 22 FT SCARAB WITH 454 L29 MOTOR IT HAS NEW STEERING CABLES HOWEVER I CAN MOVE THE OUTDRIVE LEFT TO RIGHT AT LEAST 3 INCHES EUTHER WAY I AM TOLD IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSOM BECAUSE THE KNOCKLE IS WORN AND THE MOTOR NEEDS TO B PULLED. WHEN ON THE WATER BOAT DOES TEND TO VEAR TO THE LEFT. THERE R ALSO TIMES WHEN AT A HIGHER SPEED ABOUT 30 MPH IF A WAVE FROM ANOTHER BOAT COMES AT THE BOAT IT WILL GO SIDE TO SIDE OUT OF CONTROL IS THIS A DEF INDICATION OF A SHOOT TRANSOM OR IS IT A TRIM TAB ADJUSTMENT IN THE WATER.. WOULD THE BOAT PERFORM IN SPEED BETTER IF THE OUTDRIVE HAD NO PLAY AND WOULD THE BOAT HANDLE BETTER UNDER CHOPPY WATER CONDITIONS. IS THERE ANY WAY TO TIGHTEN THE CABLES TO TIGHTEN UP THE PLAY OR IS A NEW TRANSOM NEEDED.
