Mercruiser 4.3L Marine Engine Aluminum Exhaust Options

Bob,

Thanks for your inquiry and the opportunity at earning your business. There is differeing oppinions for using AL in salt water with some saying never and other saying it works great. For example Stainless Marine makes high performance systems where they utilize a stainless riser in combination with a cast AL manifold. In addition to this they offer one of the only other 5 year warranties and are used primarily in Salt Water being “Go-Fast” boat systems. Our approach has been to not offer the uncoated AL for saltwater, rather offer the internally and externally coated systems that also utilize anode protection. This system works great for both salt water and fresh water. There is no system related problems at all regarding expansion coefficients. Using the link below you can read an article regarding AL and CI and also the use of coatings. Let me know if you need any further technical information or help placing your order. In either case I will be glad to assist!

I am considering purchasing your aluminum exhaust manifolds as replacements for my present cast iron manifolds on my 1998 4.3 l Vortec (carbed). I’ve been advised not to use aluminum if the entire motor and exhaust system does not have a closed cooling system. Mine is engine block only. Are there any issues with using aluminum in this scenario? Also, will different rates of expansion be a problem when attaching aluminum exhaust parts to a cast iron cylinder head? Thank you. Bob
