Mercruiser 228 5.0L Log Style Exhaust Manifold Performance
Ed,
If you go with a new longblock you can go with just the non-Vortec block or for better performance you will want to go with a partial package since you’ll need the new fuel & ignition with the engine to go with a Vortec.

Andy, thanks for getting back to me. I am considering a 5.7vortec with a 088 block casting. My old engine is a 1979 merc 228. Do you know which center rise manifolds would work for me? I see different ones with riser spacers etc.
You web site is nice. nice touch with the specs. info. etc.
Also, do you sell Merc. pre owned or reman. engines? Prices on the 5.7?
Ed

Ed,
Thanks for your inquiry and the opportunity at earning your business. The log style manifolds were very restrictive to exhaust flow. I would strongly encourage switching to the center rise style if you go up to the 5.7L since these engines are making considerably more Hp today than in those previous years. You can add your selected product(s) to your shopping cart and the shipping estimator located at the bottom of the shopping cart page will give you a shipping cost based on your specific postal code. Let me know if you need any further technical information or help placing your order. In either case I will be glad to assist!

I am considering repowering my old 228 mercruiser chevy 5.0 with a 5.7. my old log style exhaust manifolds are in good shape. Do you think it is ok to use these with a newer engine with more hp? in other words, do the new manifolds help performance or just better heat control? thanks Ed
