Marine Exhaust Systems – 2005 Searay 215 weekender w/ Mercruiser 5.0L Carb
Gordon,
Ok that helps. Typically it is suggested to checkout or replace the exhaust system every 7-10 years when operating is salt water. In your case if you flush you could extend range to the longer side of that range. However not knowing the exact history, and especially being combined with the fact that you are experiencing the described issues I would recommend changing out the system and having a fresh start where you know what your baseline is. Typically we explain to customers to think of it as insurance. You spend to change out the exhaust system every 7-10 years to prevent having to replace the entire engine from an unwanted overheat or water ingestion issue. I have a 2005 Searay 215 weekender which I bought 2 years ago with 250 hours on it. I put Freshwater 1/2 system cooling on it last spring. I run it in salt water 6 months of the year. In Augest I noticed the temperature was increasing to 185 degrees running at 3200 RPM but when I pulled back to 1500 RPM the temperature went back to 170. I replaced the thermostat but it was still running 183 – 185 as I put a Lazer thermometer on most locations of the motor & Riser Elbows. The port Elbow was running at 180 and the starboard at 175. I now have it out of the water and just replaced the impeller in the Alpha leg. I am getting good water flow, but have not had it out to test. Should I be replacing the Manifolds & 1.7" riser & Elbows at this point ? If so, would your Kit # EK-Merc-DJ2-%&L-NS do the trick with 4 full flow gaskets, which I also need a price on. Thx Gordon
