Regarding your specific question regarding replacing an inline engnie with a V engine, the mounts are not the same and therefore require modifications to the boat stringers. The other issue is that the gear ratio of your sterndrive would not match up either due to the increase in Hp.

Subject: Product Lead Question: Engine – Mercruiser CPO, 4.3L, 2V Carb, Alpha (#CPO865108R44)

Anthony writes:
I currently own a 1993 Sea Ray 17′ bowrider with a 3.0L Merc engine and would like to uprgade the engine to a 4.3L. Will this engine work with the existing sterndrive (Alpha 1) and engine mounts? I know that I will have to rework the exhaust, but what other items will I be required to modify? Your help is greatly appreciated.
