Thanks for your inquiry and the opportunity at earning your business. This may or may not be more information than you want but I’ll throw it out there in case you like to read. There are many difficulties involved with Big Block V8 repowers today since everyone quit offering complete 454’s, and the 496 motor that began replacing the 454’s in 2001 were discontinued from GM just this year. All of this limited engine availability in combination with the new 2010 emmissions rules creates a serioulsy complicated and difficult repowering situation to say the least.  Based on all of these difficulties I would recommend going with the remanufactured longblock and then replacing the exhaust, starter, alternator, and fuel pump if those are also in bad shape. This is the most common option customers in your position are doing today. As for remanufactured longblocks ther are two options; Mercruiser OEM or direct replacement. The OEM product does not require a core but is a little more expensive. The OEM product has a 1 year warranty where the direct replacement has a 2 year warranty.
