2013 Boat Show Opens & Marina Shop Added to Museum
Thursday, October 31st, 2013This has been an interesting week of boating news, from the anticipated opening of the 2013 International Boat and Yacht Show to the addition of a marina engine shop to a museum. For this reason, we’ve decided to recap some of the most important events, news, and tidbits that you shouldn’t miss if you are into boating in any way.
National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium Celebrates 100 Year old Shop
The Bellevue based Iowa Marine Engine and Launch Works shop – a shop that’s well known for its building of marina engines – saw a milestone birthday of 100 years, and to celebrate the milestone, the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium decided it wanted to display a replica of the inside of the shop inside its museum.
The Iowa Marine Engine and Launch Works shop started in the late 1800s, and did everything from making and repairing boat engines and equipment to repairing tractor engines.
A museum official was quoted as saying that the museum exhibit is an exact replica of what the inside of the boat shop looked like 100 years ago when it opened. The shop’s contents on display are real, and were a part of the actual shop in Bellevue, and wer used during the making and repairing of marina engines until William Brandt – the last of the third generation of the shop’s owners – passed away a year ago.
