Various changes were made on the Marine 4.3L Longblock Engines throughout the years. Listed below is a link that will assist you in choosing the correct 4.3L marine longblock for you application Technical Tips. This is a 1996 and later "NEW" longblock to be used when replacing the Mercruiser, Volvo Penta, and OMC 1996 - 2009 versions for Carbureted, EFI and MPI applications. NOTE: If your current engine is either a carbureted or TBI model you will need to plug the crank position sensor hole located in the front timing chain cover, when using this engine. The Vortec model Marine Longblocks can be identified by the aluminum oil pan and the (8) bolts used to fasten the intake manifold to the cylinder heads. NOTE 1: In 2008 GM changed the front timing chain cover to an aluminum version versus the composite cover. This model 2537-S engine comes with a composite timing cover and the 2008 & earlier style crank position sensor. Therefore if you have a 2008 or later MPI engine with a crank position sensor OR an engine equipped with an aluminum timing chain cover this in NOT the correct longblock. Rather you will need to order p/n 2537-S3.
NOTE 2: This engine includes the composite timing chain cover, Valve covers, Oil pan and Water pump.
NOTE 3: A limited number of Vortec 4.3L engines built between 1996 & 1998 were built using STD English threaded fasteners however that block was discontinued and all other years utilized metric threaded fasteners. Therefore if the engine you are replacing uses the Std English threaded fasteners you will need to order the supplemental kit that contains the correct metric fasteners and flywheel.
